Orchard Park

orchard1Orchard Park is a beautiful 24 acre municipal park located along Orchard Drive and the South Service Road of I-44. Orchard Park is the home of Reed Field, a magnificent baseball and softball diamond that is used throughout the spring and summer by various softball organizations. Orchard Park provides a wide array of scenery through the natural beauty of trees and decorative landscaping. There is a beautiful 1 mile figure-8 asphalt path that winds its way through the center of this park along with a regulation size soccer field, two handball courts, a basketball court, a memorial stage for performing arts, playground equipment, and multiple pavilions that may be reserved for a small fee. Orchard Park also hosts the annual Freedom Festival, the annual Fireworks Display, and our community movies in the park.

Evergreen Park

spraypark1Evergreen Park is an approximate 16 acre municipal park located on Park Street across from the St. Clair Community Center and Public Works Facility. Evergreen Park is the home of Veteran’s Field, a fantastic baseball and softball diamond. Evergreen Park is also the home of the 2000+ sq. foot St. Clair Municipal Spray Park. Evergreen Park offers a natural setting, a new  walking trail, multiple pavilions, playground equipment, a basketball court, and a shuffleboard deck. Across Park Drive near the Jaycees Pavilion is a new 18 hole disc golf course.

Main Street Park

maintstpark2009The St. Clair Main Street Park located on Main Street in the central business district is nestled between the famed Frisco Railroad and a large portion of our downtown business area. Main Street Park is the newest addition to the great city of St. Clair Park System and it is currently the home to a Frisco Caboose as well as a gazebo and a decorative brick walking area. Main Street Park is currently used by local musicians and store owners for weekend events throughout the spring and summer. This municipal park will be going through a decorative renovation in the summer of 2008. It will be the future home of a St. Clair monument and a new downtown clock.

St. Clair Baseball Association Iron Hill Sports Complex

The great city of St. Clair is the home of a wonderful sports complex owned and operated by the St. Clair Baseball Association on Iron Hill Road. The Iron Hill Sports Complex is home to several baseball diamonds that meet the softball and baseball needs of boys and girls of various ages.

St. Clair was established in 1843 as Traveler’s Repose, a stagecoach way station from St. Louis to Springfield. It had a hotel and a post office. In 1859, the Southwest Branch of the Pacific Railroad arrived. The name was changed to St. Clair in honor of a civil engineer from the railroad. The arrival of the railroad caused the town to grow as it provided a means for shipping products to St. Louis, e.g.: lead, iron ore, tiff, lumber, livestock, poultry, and grain, the economic backbones of the community.

When the mining and lumbering industries played out, they were replaced by the coming of International Shoe Company in 1922. From 1920 to 1930 the population increased from 410 to 1453– one out of three people worked in the shoe factory. Transportation to St. Louis grew with the opening of Highways 30 and upgrading of U.S. 66 (now I-44). St. Clair soon became a resort for residents in St. Louis.
After International Shoe Company closed in 1982, residents began commuting to St. Louis for employment. St. Clair today is a rural bedroom community of the metropolitan area. However, the concentrated effort by the City may write another chapter here. There are now over 15 major industries and approximately 200 retail establishments. The population of the city is about 4724, with 15,000 people living in the school district.
